Roots !!

This is one of several above ground roots of an obviously very old tree.
I wonder just how far these roots can be allowed to grow and how long it takes!
I am reading a book on trees at the moment and I find it so interesting.
How much has happened in the vicinity of this one old tree and what stories it could tell !! As you might guess I was once again in Mayfield Park which I love.
