Jumping in the deep end

Rikki, age 35, earns his living by jumping 40 ft from a cliff-top into the Annadale waterfall for tourists in Grenada.

He goes under the name of "Butterfly" and you can find him there everyday where, for a small donation, he will jump for the camera.

When did he start?

" I began with small jumps and graduated to the big drop."

How deep is the water?

"20ft".

Rikki is one of five jumpers in the Annadale Jumpers Association,
and they operate as a co-operative sharing the money they earn.


This is a novel and spectacular, not to mention dangerous, way of earning a living on an island with 20 per cent unemployment.


I am glad I was able to video his jump because it was all over in seconds.

Here are two prayers I came across today.

For Husbands only: "Dear God, keep our wives from shopping sprees and protect them from bargains they don't need or can't afford.

Lead them not into temptation for they know not what they do! "


For wives only:

"Almighty Father, keep our husbands from looking at foreign women and then comparing them to us.

Save them from making fools of themselves in cafes and night clubs. Above all do not forgive them their trespasses for they know exactly what they do."
