Treasure in the Woods
I was home today and since it was bright and sunny and beautiful and the sky was blue and the air was pretty warm, I wanted to get outta the house! I told Son I really needed to get out a bit, so he (being such a smart kid) searched Google for waterfalls in our area.
One of the results was a bit unexpected. It is a park located not far from home. So, off we went. It was lovely. But, too bad we didn't know where to begin!
We followed a path that seemed to end. Hmmm....I thought perhaps we needed to go down another path to find a map. We walked a ways, went down endless stairs, then found a small gazebo with a map!
I thought we needed to clamber up another set of endless stairs...there must have been at least 100! Son said I was wrong. Well, we followed the path that lead to a large parking lot and an unscenic overlook. Argh. So, back down we went. Good news is, it was all downhill!
Son reread the map (correctly) and then we made off once again. The walk was all uphill....which is better? Endless stairs or paths that seem to head heavenward? We walked and walked, all ascending. Finally, the path seemed to level out a bit and we enjoyed the walk.
There were a couple of lookouts and one had a view of the falls above. The lookout had a cute little shelter with a roof and benches to sit and relax. Off in the distance, to the east, one can also catch a glimpse of Canandaigua Lake. This little place would be such a fine place to just spend some quiet time.
On the way back, we took a loop where we saw some people had come from....oh my....the path back was much shorter than the way we went! Ah well, live and learn....It was well worth the trek!
