Life on the Good Intent

Temptation

The gashes on this apple shaped candle are due to it falling from a great height when a cat or cats sent the tall CD tower flying.
However the apple symbolises my falling off the wagon of my local food diet. I found myself lusting after a colleagues lunchtime avocado and I bought a hothouse (but Scottish) lettuce. What is the carbon footprint of growing lettuce in Scotland in February?

It was too hard to keep up my intake of fruit and vegetables whilst working - its so much easier to make up a large part of your 5 a day with fruit at breakfast and lunch.
I haven't abandoned it completely - just apples, oranges and bananas in addition to my local veg. Hopefully the fruit comes by ship not airfreight - my father was a marine engineer and did the trip to Australia bringing back apples amongst other cargoes.
Farmers' market in Stirling this weekend - so I can stock up on some excellent local produce!
