Baby Sea Otter
A week or so ago, we saw an announcement in the "newspaper" that the Seattle Aquarium was expecting a baby Sea Otter to be born soon. We got really excited about it being described as a "huge fluff ball" so when we hard it was born just two days ago, we rushed down here to the Aquarium to see it! Mama has to carry the baby on her belly almost all the time because it can't swim yet. It was amazing to see her swim around trying to keep a wriggling pup dry on her belly! But, as a great show for us, she did indeed put the baby down (and I down I mean she shoved it like a rag doll into this small corner by the glass. It was quite funny to watch! At one point, with the baby squirming, a little kid was worried that the baby would fall into the water. We all assured him it wouldn't but just then, it did! Mom was right on it though and plucked her out and began drying her off. The interesting thing was watching how all the adults were much more interested in seeing the baby otter than the children were. I think we like seeing her mother the baby, but while swimming, but the kids are looking for action and a sleeping baby doesn't cut it!
