Crucis

The mystery of the cross shines bright.

This cross by a little bridge is on Pla de Martis about three kilometres from the house. It is a turning point on my prescribed daily walk, giving me a 5 mile circuit to do.

I have asked and enquired of everyone why the cross is here , the most believable explanation is that it marks the boundary of two villages, Serinya and Esponella, or perhaps the boundaries of two parishes. But who placed it and why?

The bridge spans a little stream, more often than not dry. It is quite humpit backed and leads to a narrow track which eventually meanders to a third village, Centenys. I love the medieval feel of this place, you can imagine peasants trudging across the bridge on their way from the fields, or on their way to the market in Banyoles. It is the Catalan equivalent of Lark Rise To Candleford, and takes me back to a similar locus in Lincolnshire where I grew up.
