Deer, Roe Deer

We have been seeing the small roe deer herd at Archerfield, East Lothian for about a week.

They are all female and are being followed around by a much larger buck, and a young fox.

I know why the male is following them. I don't know what the fox gets out of it.

The deer are much larger than the fox, we have seen them facing him down if he gets too close, so I don't think they are prey. Perhaps they occasionally disturb smaller animals.

They are very beautiful though.

And if I ever actually catch them eating my shrubs, I'll...I'll...

...probably just shoo them away a bit
