'Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky!
This is one of the six giant stone heads that form Emily Young's "Metaphysics of Stone", currently on display in London's Berkeley Square (still no nightingales...).
If I've understood it correctly, Young is using the stillness & age of stone (these are from a volcano that erupted in Italy about 150, 000 years ago) to try & provide a moment of calm in a busy city location.
She says, " There's a kind of contemplativeness...connected to the earth in a thoughtful, reflective way. That's something people in the city don't get much of. Just to be still and quiet and comfortable."
I like them, but it was too cold today to be both still and comfortable!
