Literary anniversaries
Another anniversary today - 200 years since the birth of Charles Dickens. In June 1970 on Dickens' death centenary the Post office issued a set of four five penny stamps depicting scenes from Pickwick papers, David Copperfield and Oliver Twist. I know because I found a mint set of the stamps in the seemingly bottomless bag of stamps I acquired. Dickens worked with a long string of illustrators, Hablot Knight Browne - Phiz - is perhaps the best known as he worked with Dickens for more than 20 years and illustrated ten of his works.
