Wednesday 16th May 1973 - Forget Music
I've been going through some old papers - they're useful for lighting kitchen wood-stove in the morning - and I found one dated Wednesday 16th May 1973. It was a sheet of notes that my father had taken at a parent-teacher meeting.
Amongst the 'could do better' type statements was the one word assessment from the music teacher
- FORGET -
I remember being somewhat confused in Music lessons we were shown dots and lines on a page, then the teacher would play something on the piano. These were meant to be the same thing and I never made the connection.
Other people in the class seemed to understand, but they also seemed to understand rugby, the rules of which were lost on me during games.
So I understood the teacher's assessment of my chances of success and from 1973 onwards I forgot about music - except as a listener of course.
I'm hoping that by 16th May 2013, after 40 years of following this teacher's advice I will prove to be a great disappointment to them and actually be able to play something!
