The longest day

So we did make it out of LA; we even made to Heathrow airspace before being told that the plane was not being allowed to land. Instead we had to go the nearest airport with space, which turned out to be Barcelona. Great.

We knew that BA don't have flights from Barcelona to Edinburgh so we were a bit stuffed. BA said they'd put us up in a hotel for the night and then try to fly us back to London the next day. This wasn't a particularly great prospect with two tired and grumpy kids (plus parents). We had a look to see if there were any other flights to Edinburgh that night and found that Ryanair had the only one. With fingers crossed we changed terminals and set up to buy tickets. Thankfully they had seats available even though they stung us for nearly the same cost as our LA return flight had cost. They even charged us extra for our baggage and car seats and buggys. It did however mean we'd be back home rather than stuck in a rather chilly Barcelona. It seemed an even better option when we found out that the BA flight back to London the next day had just also been cancelled.

Even when the Ryanair flight was delayed we still felt relieved to touch back down in miserable Edinburgh. Around 30 or so hours of travel; we are all shattered. Roll on the jet lag.

We now have to fight BA to try and get reimbursed for the flights back to Edinburgh. Should be fun.
