Jens Pics of the Day

Old Asylum

I haven't blipped in a few days, been so stuffed with a cold and exhausted. Today we went a walk to a derelict asylum near Edinburgh, so that my husband could take more photos for his 'derelict buildings' montage assignment. Molly and I just went along for the new walk and the promise of lunch afterwards.
Its an interesting site, many buildings in various stages of decay and dereliction, some boarded up and others broken windows. When you peer in to them, it is astonishing the amount of things that appear to have been left behind - irons, ironing boards, hoist type things, chairs and so on. Some seemed fairly intact from the outside but others had obvious roof sags and holes.
It's not somewhere I would like to go alone or at night, there was a bit of an eery vibe about it all. Made even more strange by the occasional noise from within the buildings...we hoped it was just some roof falling...and a bearded man riding past on an old fashioned horse and cart with a large dog squashed between his knees.

Molly got lots of sniffs and a longer walk than she is meant to have because of her hips, so was very tired afterwards. She had a nice nap in the car while we went to a pub for lunch...yum!
