Memories

This was the garage where I bought my 1st gallon of petrol for my newly acquired motorcycle, a 250cc Royal Enfield. The petrol cost me 3/6, in real money 17.5 pence, which works out at just under 4 pence per litre - oh for 1961 prices.

The building was designed by Sir Basil Spence for Southern Motors Garage in 1933 before he was Sir. He was knighted in 1960 for the design of Coventry Cathedral.

Majestic Wines opened here in 1998.
