Rediscovery
This morning I read somewhere that today was the 194th anniversary of the rediscovery of the Honours of Scotland by Sir Walter Scott. And so it turns out to be - for on the 4th of February 1818 Sir Walter with a small group of men broke open a chest in Edinburgh Castle and found what were, and are, the oldest crown jewels in these islands, which had been put away and forgotten after the Union of the Parliaments in 1707.
The anniversary seemed more than suitable for a blip, but I wasn't quite sure what the picture would be until about half an hour ago when I remembered this lovely little art work that sits on a table in our conservatory. It is a beautifully made glass wand, which I suppose could be taken for a sceptre - though it is only about three inches long!
Anyway, many thanks to Sir Walter !
