Rooftop monument to women pilots

A cold and sunless day.

This splendid full-sized Spitfire replica is about a mile from my home. The owner of the garage had it erected last summer to honour the women of the Air Transport Auxiliary in WWII. They flew Spitfires to their airbases from the factories: many women died on their missions.

The tribute was originally a temporary fixture. However, I think permanent planning permission has now been applied for as almost everyone around here loves it!
