The Leaning Clock Tower of Somewhere in Perak
Picked up our car from KL this morning and set off north. Had planned on Cameron Highlands but because of the holiday W/E could not find accom on line. Bought a Dongle last night, £30, so we can in theory surf from anywhere. Yet to be proven to be reliable but so far OK, and cheap @ 1 Ringgit / day (20p). In true fashion, we got lost on the way up the coast road and found ourselves in a small town whose only claim to fame is this "Torre pendante". Once again we were rescued by a one-tooth-local who by dint of sign language put us back on track to Lumut, from where we will get a ferry to Pangkon Island for our first dip. Driving standards are generally good, and courtesy abounds, believe it or not, but one or two kamikazes obviously believe wholeheartedly in the will of Allah, and drive like axxxxxxs. There must be lots of head-ons, judging from the car graveyards which abound. Petrol < 50p/Ltr!
Lunch today: Fresh Veg soup w/ginger and RHCPs, Nasi Goreng w/ Chicken bits of obscure origin + iced water. Cost: £2.30. Iced water was replaced with warm when I was seen chucking the ice. No common language required.
