Our Beloved
Late this afternoon, we went to the local Vet, knowing full well that it was unlikely for Deedleto come home.
Frosty and Hooligan received the usual yearly shots.
But, as forDeedle, it was a different mission.
His health had been deterioration over this last week, to such an alarming extent where we knew (within our hearts) that the dreaded day was imminent.
To cut it short, on arriving at the Vet's rooms,Deedle was compassionately examined by Dr Pettifer, options were given .. yet we knew , that taking his age into consideration, and his history of cancerous growths .. we had to take DEEDLE into consideration, not ourselves.
Oh my, not so easy. All we wanted was to have him back home.
Besides, today was not a bad day for him, better than yesterday.
I carefully prepared mince and rice for him, a special treat, - to those who know about the appetite of a Great Dane! - but no such luck. He ate a few bites, then looked up at us, as if asking -well, what now?
So mercifully, and compassionately, he was euthanized roundabout 6 this evening, ever so dignified, executing every command ever taught to him ... Deedle, sit down .... Deedle, lie down ... which he all did, and then Dr Pettifer did the final administration.
Deedle passed away within seconds, our hearts breaking, yet, bearing in mind all that he suffered .... we had to allow this act of mercy.
He was more than a wonderful being, a wonderful friend ...
We lost a huge part of our lives today Most of all, he was Johann's soulmate, friend and beloved dog ... what a loss.
