L'Elysee, the domicile of a French clown

This is a picture of a sign near the Champs Elysees. It indicates the way to the presidential palace but also, in larger letters, the theatre named after the eponymous French puppet, Guignol. In common parlance, 'guignol' translates as 'clown' or 'buffoon'.

This is so apt.

Visitors to France may have seen the daily satirical 'les Infos de Guignol' in which French politicians and personalities speak through their puppets. This programme is a copy of the TV series Spitting Image from 1984 - 1996.
