Scotland's lost village
This is the view from the old school house at Riccarton Junction, it once had around 118 residents living here and as such had to have its own school with resident teacher.
After the Beecham report in 1963 the village of Riccarton was proposed for closure, on 6th January 1969 the last train pulled away from the station. By then all but all of the residents had moved on leaving what must have looked like a ghost town.
The houses are gone and almost impossible to find, the town hall which was once the hub of the community has crumbled and disappeared from the landscape...even the rail tracks are gone leaving only what you see here.
You can't help but wonder if Riccarton would have flourished into one of many lovely Scottish towns that we pass by on our travels, unfortunately we will never know.
