Sad, surreal & unforgettable
Just got from a brilliant weekend in Krakow, the city is truly beautiful and me & my friends had a really good time.
On Sunday we visited Aushwitz & Birkenau which although daunting we all felt was essential to experience. I took few photos of our visit, this of the infamous gate and a panorama set of the railway at Birkenau. I took them mostly so that I never forget how the places made me feel. What I couldn't understand were the numerous groups of people we saw all over both camps posing, smiling and thumbs up in front of sites of horrific, unimaginable suffering. It became intolerable in the end and we walked away from all but our group.
While I felt uncomfortable taking and sharing this photo I passionately believe that to witness is to remember and to remember and pay tribute is essential.
