Posh poo palace
This is the newish toilet building in Barnstaple's cattle market car park. It has a lovely roof.
(Can you believe it? - the dog's just farted to help create that extra poo effect!)
I hear the toilets were very (very) expensive to build.
Now I'm all for nice toilets (I actually cried in France when I needed a wee and there was nowhere even vaguely bearable to relieve myself), attractive public buildings and art in public places - in fact, I very much advocate the need for more pleasant places and places of interest within our towns, cities and villages. But when I know that there are homeless people quite possibly freezing in Barnstaple tonight and empty buildings in the town, just sitting around crumbling, I wonder if the the money could have been better spent on something other than bogs.
I could have taken a better photo but this was my first foray into the world of snapping in a public place (other than beaches, woods and hilly walks, etc, where clicking cameras seem quite normal) and I was embarrassed.
I've mastered the squatting on the beach thing but still have to conquer this displaying my camera in a town thing. It's a bit like wearing a peculiar hat.
It's not easy this photography lark. People give you funny looks.
We were in town today buying birthday stuff for our eldest who has the cheek to have yet another birthday. We're going to indulge in a bit of time travel and celebrate her 17th birthday on Friday, when in fact we think we've possibly only been parents for about 4 or 5 years (something like that)
Talking of photography and children - this looks good:
