Magnolia

So I have a problem. This is the very lovely magnolia my friend in Leeds sent me for my birthday. It was too cold to dig a hole to plant it when it arrived, too busy when it was warmer. Now it is freezing and it is in bud. So in my mind I am assuming I can't plant it out or it will be frost damaged, but when it is warmer can I plant it out then? Or should I just plant it out anyway, risk the damage and assume it will be ok next year?
