Red Squirrel

'Allo, 'Allo, What's All This 'Ear Then?

Took a stroll into Bracondale Wood today - I hadn't been there for a couple of weeks. It turned out to be a productive walk and a distastrous one too - which could well end up costing me yet more money (on top of what I had to fork out for that tyre yesterday) come payday!
Walking along the path leading into the wood I espied a squirrel sitting on the ground nearby. I froze. The squirrel froze. I slowly managed to get my camera from my bag and turn it on, and my glasses from their case in the bag. The squirrel remained motionless. I thought I may have a blip - but as I very slowly put my glasses on the squirrel shot away , up a tree and out of sight. Damn!
So I decided to leave my camera switched on and pop it in the top pocket of my jacket, easily to hand, and put my glasses (minus their case) in the other top pocket, also easily to hand. I've done this many times before. And off I went into the wood in search of fungi. About to give up as there seemed nothing around, I suddenly spotted these brilliant Jews Ears on a rotten tree stump. And that's when I discovered - horror of horrors - that my glasses had fallen from my top pocket at some point! I took some quick shots of the fungi then tried to retrace my steps looking for my glasses (have you ever tried to retrace your steps in the middle of a wood? Hahahah. "Now did I walk between those 2 trees over there, or those 2 over there?" Nightmare!). My 1/2 hour lunchbreak turned into 3/4 hour and no sign of my glasses. Luckily I have a spare pair in my car (old ones, not so good, but will get me by in an emergency) so at least had something to use at work. And here at home tonight.
Tomorrow lunchbreak will be a glasses-hunt in Bracondale (just as well I already know what I'm going to blip!) It started to snow slightly as I was heading back to work, then stopped. I'm praying we don't get any snow overnight or I really will be stuffed! And just as well I can laugh about it, otherwise I think I'd cry! Aaaargh!
