Samson's Putting Stone .........
..... sits atop a hill outside Callander.
Sitting precariously on Bochastle Hill, tradition has it that this stone came to be here as a result of a putting competition between a family of giants. The winner of the competition was Samson who lived on Ben Ledi.
A more readily accepted interpretation is that the stone was carried by glaciers from Glen Dochart and left behind when the ice retreated.
I prefer the first explanation.
On the summit of the next hill to the left of the putting stone is 'Dunmore', an exceptionally well preserved ancient hill fort which is well worth avisit.
