roughly translated as

Four fat lions
Without any hair
Two on this side
And two over there

This is one of the four limestone lions that stand at the four corners of the Brittannia Bridge, unfortunately they can only be seen from the railway as the road bridge was built over the top of the railway in 1980 and the lions are underneath
There have been several suggestions on moving them to road level but at the moment it's let sleeping lions lie.
