Leaving Scotland
Every time I go through these doors at Glasgow airport I am reminded of the terrorist attack in 2007 when a doctor drove a jeep loaded with propane canisters through these doors.
It did not result in a massive explosion thanks to the quick thinking of a baggage handler but there was substantial damage.
Police later identified the two men as Bilal Abdullah, a British-born, Muslim doctor of Iraqi descent working at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, and Kafeel Ahmed, also known as Khalid Ahmed, the driver, who was treated for severe burns at the same hospital.
Since then security around the airport has been stepped up and concrete pillars covered in stainless steel guard both the pedestrian entrance to the airport and vehicle access.
You are no longer allowed to drop people off outside the building but have to do some some 100 yards or so away.
Welcome to the world of 2012...We leave Scotland today for some sun.
