Banana chips (A taste of home #1)
Not just any banana chips. These are the ones from my hometown, which means that they're the best in the world. They're made from native bananas sliced paper thin, fried in vegetable oil, then coated in honey and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They shatter on the tongue and bring back muggy childhood afternoons when I would plop onto a hammock after school and devour these by the handful.
My friend Frank, who spent the holidays back home, brought these and other treats back for me.
I've attempted to make these here, using bland Chiquita bananas from the supermarket. They were a disaster.
