Thorns
Teacher
You fling yourself upon my feet,
Like yellowed leaves at fall,
Imploring me to weave my canopy over you
So that the sun, with needles of heat shall melt away.
You think I live in verdant worlds, don't you?
And I breathe air glittering like diamonds,
Hear songs of love kneading at my heart
And I, the umbrella, whose shadow shall not burn?
I laugh at your words, never wishing they were true
For I have fallen through the darkest crevices
Walked the deserts on footprints of fire,
Survived in the namelessness of things,
How else could I have found the words,
Whose rain your parched tongue does seek?
