Bells

Ringing this morning. I went to some pains to get this shot risking life and limb to climb up a narrow and dangerously worn spiral staircase to reach the bell chamber! Blipping demands it! The bells are hung from a headstock which is mounted on the wheel to which the rope is attached. The heaviest bell weighs half a ton so when the bells are in the upturned position ready to ring, a notice is displayed to warn that the bells are in a dangerous condition. An uninitiated person who pulled the rope would end up with a lot of wickedly flailing rope which, if it caught a limb, would haul that person up into the air and then crash him down again repeatedly. A friend lost a finger ringing and deaths are not unheard of!! You have been warned!
