Sigiri Apsara
This is one of the few remaining frescoes at Sigiriya: the ancient Lion Rock Fortress.
Believed to be from the fifth century A.D., these paintings represent apsaras or celestial nymphs, depicted as rising from clouds. These maidens are also known as the cloud damsels, lightning princesses and more prosaically as the ladies of King Kasyapa's court.
