Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

Hoops

This young girl was shooting hoops in the park when Liza and I went for our scoot. She was quite determined and focused. I was taken by her whole persona -- the boots and jersey, her seriousness, the way she'd pull her ponytail back into place every so often. I admit I didn't even notice if she made the baskets often.

There was a male adult with her - presumably her father. They were playing a game of Horse - taking turns shooting, challenging each other with each shot. But he was shooting one-handed and talking on a cell phone the whole time. I was appalled by this. Can't you give your full attention to your child while playing ball? It was a lovely day with opportunity for meaningful connection between them.

What are we becoming with our need to be electronically connected 24/7?
