A Little Visitor
Set off for a walk this afternoon and half way down the drive I heard a high pitched screeching noise. I thought it was a bird at first, but it was this little chap. I was eating a hard boiled egg and a banana at the time - a late lunch - so gave him a bit of each and hoped he would find his way back to where he came from.
Three hours later, after an excellent walk, he was still where I had first seen him, but now just making rasping noises. I picked him up, gave him some water in a syringe, and have put him in a box with a gin bottle full of hot water to keep him cosy. He's had a bit of the jelly off the cats' food from my finger, but he just seems to want to sleep. Ollie has been very gentle with him, apart from trying to nudge him and lick his face - but I think that was simply looking for food, rather than tenderness and concern!
Hope he survives, but I think the odds are against him as he is so small. I've been onto the Tiggywinkles hedgehog rescue website and am doing what I should, so fingers crossed. He's got a lovely wee face, and he would be a useful beastie to have in the veg garden!
