This is the year of the dragon

In May last year I posted a photograph of the Urban Jungle Cafe in Grey Lynn, showing some of the mosaic wall beside the footpath. Ceridwen identified the presence of a Welsh dragon. Subsequently I tried a few times to blip the dragon, and never quite managed, often because of something else taking my fancy later on the run.

Woke a little late this morning and knowing that a busy day followed by travelling north for anniversary weekend would mean no other opportunity for a run, I set off for a short and quick run, taking me through Grey Lynn village and past the mosaic wall. Saw that the overcast sky well after sunrise gave excellent light for taking this photograph. And here it is. I have cropped out above and below the mosaic, and otherwise this is as it came from the camera.

Welsh dragon, Irish fiddle, Scottish bagpipes and English castle. These four countries provided a majority of the early immigrants to New Zealand in the mid 19th century. When I was a young person, New Zealand politicians and newspapers referred to Britain as "Home", and the country felt betrayed when the UK joined the Common Market.

Blipfoto has been down for about an hour due to the server going down, so I'm posting this quickly and hope it goes.
