Symbiosis
Lichens.
Now I like lichens almost as much as I like trees. Of course, the fact one can find both in the same place is wonderful.
Lichens are, of course, a composite organism - an alga growing with a fungus. One provides the matrix, the other the food. This one is Xanthoria parietina and I found it one a blackthorn bush on the bank of the River Lugg about a quarter of a mile upstream of the confluence with the Wye at Mordiford.
I'm very lucky being able to drive this way to my office. Two rivers and more blipopp0rtunitites to ever grow tired.
Happy Wodan's day blippers.
