My better half tells me these are resistors (for engine cooling).

I checked out a library book with creativity excerises. One suggests making a composition out of photos of items of like shaped, sized, and framed items. I lost interest quickly.

I find these exercises rarely reveal solutions to the problem at hand. The upside is they often give me the spark of an idea for a new project. Alas, I never seem to find time to work on such things.
