Reflection2: Rainy Street

Sorry, another one... and another Leonard Cohen album for today. Cohen apparently described 'Death Of A Ladies' Man' as both "grotesque" and "semi-virtuous" and I guess that not only is it possible to be both but that each has the potential to add increase to the other. The sound is like Phil Spector and laughing Len were doing battle in the studio but each was a match for the other - not like with Lennon on 'Rock and Roll', where all the chaos stayed in the studio none of it made it onto the vinyl. The overall effect is not unlike the Tom Waits approach of seemingly throwing all the elements of the tune into a barrel and rolling them down a hill - partially-orchestrated madness, compelling weirdness...? Might listen to something more calming tomorrow, maybe Boards of Canada or something...?
