Maus

Every year at Christmas time my Dad asks each family member to pick a genre of book they would like to read more of. The more obscure and random the better for Dad. I say Christmas time but he really gets the whole process going early-November as us Burnetts like to be organised (almost to the point of insanity). Once he has our genres, Dad does off on his book hunt (aided by the wonderful folk at Amazon) to find the perfect book. Although I do remember him saying Christmas just past that "it's not really about the book, more about the process". Which is fair enough and once again a very Burnett thing. So this year my genre was graphic novels. I always panic when it comes to genre picking as I'm not really sure how I choose books to read anymore and I also want to pick something that will really challenge my Dad. But more often than not his persistence at getting a reply overwhelms my evil genius brain and I end up going for something relatively straight forward. This was my gift this year and was actually sitting in my Amazon shopping basket waiting for after Christmas when it's acceptable to start buying yourself gifts again. I am going to begin reading tonight and I have heard such wonderful things about Maus I can't wait to get started. Oh, in addition to the book, this year we also got a sneak peek into the book picking process and Dad gave us all a wee print out with his rationale behind the book selection.

I bleedin' love my Dad. He is excellent and so much of his awesomeness (some might say craziness) has passed on to me. Huzzah.

(For clarity my Mum and sisters are also amazing and will get their own dedicated blip at some point. Just a wee disclaimer there for ya.)
