Lake District
Today's the day ........................ to get off the train
Travelled back home to Kendal from Edinburgh today by train. It was another lovely day and the journey down through the Scottish Borders was just a treat.
The scenery is beautiful for most of the way - but it really starts getting dramatic about twenty miles north of Kendal after Shap when the line squeezes its way through the Tebay gap and the hills rise sharply on both sides. Then the ground falls away again and on a day like today, you can look right across to the snow-capped mountains of the Lake District.
I always feel very privileged that - when the train stops at Oxenholme - it's my stop. Usually, very few people get out there - they're all on their way to Manchester Airport or somewhere down south.
I imagine everyone is thinking "She's lucky - fancy living there?" - but I don't suppose they are at all ...............................!
