Quaker Grave

Mrs R and I took the dog for a walk this afternoon and on the way we passed an old Quaker burial ground in a small wood. It dates from 1725 and apparently a tree was planted each time a member of the group was interred.

There is only one gravestone evident and that has been bedded in concrete to prevent further vandalism. Quite a lot of rubbish has been dumped over the hedge which is a shame as the snowdrop and crocus flowers that are just coming out would make it a nice place.

The inscription on the stone reads:

Joseph Jesper
Died 3 Month 6 1890
Aged 84 Years
Sarah Jesper
Died 6 Month 19 1889
Aged 81 Years

I thought it was an interesting and unusual way to show the date.
