Glencorse Reservoir

This morning I went for a long, slow run from home to down Spylaw Park, along the Water of Leith to Balerno, then southeast to Harlaw and the Pentland Hills. From Maiden's Cleugh I jogged down to Glencorse Reservoir and then returned home via the "army" road by Castlelaw and Allermuir. Lovely run, but very cold on higher ground.

I took this photo not long after I'd started jogging up the track on Castlelaw. I was looking back (and catching my breath!) at the view over Glencorse Reservoir. This "was built in 1822 covering an area of 8 hectares at a cost of £145,000. Designed by Thomas Telford, the reservoir was built to compensate for the loss of water used by the mills on the River Esk."
