Gilt of Cain
This conceptual sculpture in Fen Court off Fenchurch Street is a collaboration between artist Michael Visocchi and poet Lemn Sissay.
17 sugar canes rise dramatically from the ground surrounding a slave auctioneer's pulpit. Words from Sissay's poem 'The Gilt of Cain', which cleverly combines the language of the Stock Exchange trading floor with Old Testament references, wrap the sculpture.
Cash flow runs deep
But spirit deeper
You ask am I my brothers keeper?
I answer by nature
By spirit by rightful laws
My name my brother Wilberforce
