The Minarets

There's a storm brewing at Mammoth, fingers crossed it will bring snow. (Update - it's snowing right now!)

We did not ski today because of seriously strong winds on the mountain. So we walked around the western base. Clouds were gathering and the wind, even at this level, was fierce.

We were able to see The Minarets, a series of granite needle-like spires (centre right) that are part of the Ritter Range, centrepiece of the Ansel Adams Wilderness Area.

American adventurer Steve Fossett was killed in a plane crash in 2007 near The Minarets.
