Today we traveled to Jerusalem. We visited the Tower of David, had a tour of archaeologic excavations along the Western Wall, and visited The Church of The Holy Sepulchre where I nostalgically remembered our Nana by lighting a candle. Bikermom and Scintilla know I am a non-believer but I figured they'd like the candle touch for their Nana, who believed enough for all of us put together.

This photo was shot in a portion of the old international terminal at Ben-Gurion airport that is undergoing renovations. Yossi is the architect so he gave us a tour of this area as well as the domestic terminal which he redesigned several years ago.

While the children played, Yossi told me about the Lod Airport Massacre of May 30th 1972, which occured right where we were standing. 24 were killed and 78 wounded by 3 terrorists of the Japanese Red Army.

In Israel you are never far from a site of a terrorist bombing or shooting and memorials dot the country. I have happened upon several in my travels. Security checks, armed security personel, and watchful caution remain a part of day to day experience.
