The Dream Of Flight

"In the 19th Century a handful of engineers turned ancient myths and science fiction into reality. They took to the skies in flying machines.

Our story starts with Otto Lilienthal - he made the first glider flight in 1891. Lilienthal's tests and his book on bird flight inspired other experiments.

One of Lilienthal's fans was Percy Pilcher a young engineer living in Glasgow. Pilcher's dream of flight came true when he built his own glider in 1895.

But 4 years later Pilcher's flying experiments ended in tragedy. A terrible crash killed him. He was 32.
