Roll With It

Obsession

This photo is of the rowing machine screen as I finished, odd sort of photograph but those who have been following my progress since I started dieting in August would know that I have become obsessed by visiting the gym, I go at least three times per week, normally for at least 90 minutes each vist.

Anyway the photo, when I visit the gym I normally run, bit like a hamster on a treadmil, but having progressed from a mile in twenty minutes to five miles in sixty minutes over the course of five months, with the occasional eleven miler to make myself suffer I have become a creature of habit.

Imagine then my horror today on arriving in the gym to find no running machine available, a quick glance around showed plenty of other equipment available but I wanted to run. Eventually I settled on a rowing machine, setting myself a modest target of 5,000 metres, at a steady pace it took me a lick over twenty-five minutes but I was shattered.

I found myself mentally drifting back to the "good old days" in the Navy where if you went by small boat you rowed it, or in Navy speak 'pulled' it, often in the open sea. Fortunately for my well being a running machine became free, quick as a sloth I was on and running, only to be assailed twenty minutes in with a 'stitch'.

I did manage to run for a further twenty minutes but it was uncomfortable with a niggling stitch so my normally pleasant and theraputic workout became a pain. I was thinking of coming home and taking out on Clare and the children but as they are all bigger than me I shall comfort myself by denying the Jack Russell any bed space tonight and in going to bed early make more of it!!

Back to normal tomorrow
