Apfel Kuchen Cake
I arrived home tonight to find the house filled with the smell of Apfel Kuchen cake - one of Beryls specialities.
It's a sort of sweet cake/bread with apples and mixed spice and is pretty delicious
Here's her recipe. - have a go it's fantastic.

Recipe for Apple Kuchen Cake
225g/8ozs self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon mixed spice
pinch of salt
150g/5ozs brown sugar
100g/4oz butter
1egg
1 small can evaporated milk
225g/8ozs apples (peeled, cored, thinly sliced)
2 tablesspoons granulated sugar
Grease and line bottom fairly deep, loose bottomed 23cm/9in sandwich tin.
Place flour, salt, baking powder in bowl--stir in sugar and spice. Add 75g/3oz of butter rub in until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Put aside 4 tablespoons of crumble mix for topping.
Beat egg lightly and add to dry ingredients with evaporated milk--mix until evenly blended, spoon into prepared tin.
Arrange apple slices in overlapping circles on top of cake, sprinkle with crumb mix. Dot with remaining butter, sprinkle evenly with granulated sugar.
Bake in centre of moderate oven (180c, 375F, gas mark 5 for about 45 minutes, until firm in centre.
Turn out cool for about 10 minutes on a wire rack, cut into wedges, serve whilst warm with whipped fresh cream or icecream--enjoy.
