Tramway siding
Had a brisk walk, it was 2 degrees, around Heaton Park in Manchester this morning and discovered a tramway siding maintained by the Transport Heritage Trust. I have been to this park countless times and never knew this existed. It was used between 1905 and 1934 then reopened in 1980 and incorporates the oldest section of tramway in the UK.
The stops on the side of the tram show Cheetham Hill Road, Belle-Vue, Whitworth Park and Brook's Bar all iconic names in Manchester. This park is a fantastic place and has had everything from a visit from Pope John Paul II in 1982 to The Stone Roses playing this June.
