Insert Your Organ Joke Here, Missus!
The shop next door to where I work is being refitted, & power tools were the soundtrack to my day. So for a bit of peace & quiet I nipped out the Church of the Holy Leek, (as named by Bittersweet!), at lunch time.
The organ there looks old, but was built in 1987 by the Austrian maker Rieger, with the cost split with the Royal Academy of Music, which is just across the road, in return for a 50 year licence for their students to use it.
The Rieger firm was founded in by Franz Rieger, who made his first organ in 1845. The company has a long-standing interest in social justice & today the company employs about 40 people, many with disabilities.
