Knockbain Church

A nice bright sunny day if somewhat frosty. After a gap of 15 years of so re-visited the old church of Knockbain on the Black Isle. Knockbain is one those old parishes, so common round here, which doesn't really correspond to any modern settlement of the same name. The nearest village is Munlochy. Like the old church of St John which is just about 3 km to the west it is hidden in trees from the outside but here the trees have also taken over inside the roofless shell. A lot of these ruined churches like Easter Suddie and Kilmuir still have a burial ground in use and well-kept but there's nothing here and no sign of one ever existing. Quite nice views over the valley of the Littlemill Burn, the other side of the shallow valley being bathed in a golden light from the low sun, and down towards Munlochy itself.
