Halcyon Days...

Had to go to the Scout Hut tonight to look out some stuff. In the still of the summer evening I went upstairs to catch some nostalgia...

This is the mural in our old Venture Scout Den.

Jade, talented artist and one of our Ventures, designed and painted it. Man, it must have been about 15 years ago! We went all out to redesign our Den. As well as the mural, or 'muriel' as we called it, we tie-dyed curtains and bench covers, painted the door and a table, all in red, purple, blue and white; and created a chessboard notice board, onto which ridiculous news stories about pies and 'lookilikee' pictures were pinned. We even had a pair of golden clogs on the wall.

Thursday nights were our Venture night, until November 2003, when Venture Scouting ceased to exist. We met from 8 until 10, and then headed down the pub.

I opened the window whilst I was there and looked out at the view over to the playing fields. I could have been right back to a summer's Thursday night circa 1997. Was nice to have a wee moment to dip into the past.

The tagline for Venture Scouting was "Venture Scouting Works". For all of us who were involved, we can certainly say Venture Scouting worked!
